Miracles In Motion: Aly

“I’ve always wanted to be a doctor. Since I was a little girl, I just knew that I would be a pediatrician one day. I think that being able to volunteer with Child Life is really helping to prepare me to take care of these kids someday. Biology and chemistry classes help us understand the body and medicine, but by spending time with these kids, we are learning how to understand their feelings and emotions in this environment. It’s not just the medical side.

My mom was recently diagnosed with cancer, so now I understand what it’s like to be on the patient’s side. As a volunteer, all I want to do is make everyone happy. But now I know that there are some days that there is nothing any of us can do to help our patients and families be happy or think positively. Sometimes just being there to show we care is what matters most.” – Aly, UF Health Shands Children’s Hospital Volunteer, Future Pediatrician
