Wawa is Changing Kids’ Health, Building Stronger Communities
Since 2014, Wawa has been supporting UF Health Children’s Hospital through their Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals efforts. And this year, beyond their annual coin collection and register campaign, Wawa and The Wawa Foundation turned the month of April into a celebration of making a positive impact in the communities where they do business.
On April 16, Wawa stores across the country participated in the annual Wawa Day celebration, the anniversary of the first Wawa opening in 1964. Making this day even more special was the grand opening of one of the newest Wawa stores opening in our region, Wawa #5440 – the third store to open in Tallahassee, and also Wawa’s 300th location in Florida!

In honor of these milestones, The Wawa Foundation presented UF Health Shands Children’s Hospital with a $3,000 grant to support our hospital’s greatest needs.

Later in April, Wawa and The Wawa Foundation celebrated National Volunteer Week by donating gift cards to each of their seven national partners, including member hospitals of Children’s Miracle Network Hospital.

The gift cards received by UF Health Shands Children’s Hospital will support our family assistance program. From filling up gas tanks to travel to our hospital for care, to stocking up on their favorite snacks when they have to be away from home, these gift cards help ease the burden – both financially and emotionally – for our young patients and their families.
We are grateful for partners like Wawa who continue to look for ways to change kids’ health and build stronger communities!
