Like Never Before, OwlThon Makes $105,475 in Miracles

OwlThon at Florida Atlantic University raised an impressive $105,475.83 for Children’s Miracle Network at UF Health Shands Children’s Hospital this weekend. OwlThon had been completely virtual in 2020, but they worked closely with FAU administration and Campus Recreation staff to ensure 2021 event participant safety was a top priority. Students gathered in a hybrid format through social media and in socially distanced locations throughout campus.

Three shifts on Saturday, March 20 and one final shift on Sunday, March 21 allowed for participants to experience 3.5-5 hours of the marathon weekend from the comfort of their own homes or in limited capacities inside the Campus Recreation Center. The entire marathon event took place from Saturday morning through its total reveal outdoors on Sunday afternoon:

This accomplishment is a culmination of yearlong fundraising efforts by OwlThon students, alumni and high school programs, who overcame obstacles to make miracles for their local Children’s Miracle Network hospital.

In November 2020, OwlThon at FAU raised more than $21,671 in just 26.2 hours during their annual fall fundraising push day, Be Bold. They continued to fight in February 2021 by raising more than $5,134 in honor of patients in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Two high school programs were able to raise an incredible $29,808.54 alongside their collegiate peers. These fundraising pushes and high schools contributed to the final total announced at the conclusion of their marathon this weekend.

A giant thank you and congratulations to the 2021 Executive Board, internal members, dancer participants, alumni, Miracle Families, donors and the following high schools schools for their support of this endeavor, like never before:

  • Alexander W. Dreyfoos School of the Arts
  • Spanish River Community High School

These funds will make a tangible difference in the lives of so many patients and their families. OwlThon at FAU is honored to support Children’s Miracle Network at UF Health Shands Children’s Hospital and we are so proud of you!
