Dance Marathon at FSU celebrates 30th anniversary, raises more than $1.3 million to change kids’ health
Over the weekend of Feb. 28-March 2, during its annual main event, Dance Marathon at Florida State University continued its 30-year tradition of making miracles happen, revealing an incredible $1,334,457.78 raised in support of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals at UF Health Shands Children’s Hospital and the FSU College of Medicine Pediatric Outreach Program. This milestone surpassed last year’s total of $1,240,058.81, further demonstrating the FSU community’s unwavering commitment to supporting nonprofit pediatric healthcare.
More than 1,800 students participated in the 30-hour event held inside the Donald L. Tucker Civic Center in Tallahassee, FL. Throughout the marathon, fundraising participants – referred to as dancers – engaged in games, live performances, and the beloved annual line dance—all in honor of the children and families whose lives are impacted by the funds raised.
Themed, “When We Believe,” this year’s campaign celebrated three decades of impact while emphasizing the power of a collective belief in making a difference. Participants had the opportunity to hear inspiring stories from patient families treated at UF Health Shands Children’s Hospital, gaining firsthand insight into how their fundraising efforts translate into life-saving treatments, innovative research, and essential services for children in need of specialized medical care.
UF Health Shands Children’s Hospital is North Central Florida’s premier pediatric facility, offering world-class care to children with complex medical conditions. Funds raised through DM at FSU directly support cutting-edge medical equipment, family-centered programs, and resources that enhance the hospital experience for young patients. From life-saving neonatal care in the NICU to child life programs that bring joy and comfort during hospital stays, Dance Marathon’s impact is felt in every corner of the hospital.
Since its inception in 1995, DM at FSU has grown to become the university’s largest student-run organization and the fifth-highest fundraising Dance Marathon program nationwide, raising more than $22 million over its history. As the program continues to expand, so does its impact on pediatric healthcare, ensuring that children across North Florida receive the best possible care.
At the beginning of the year, the Executive Board of DM at FSU made a powerful commitment:
“We as Dance Marathon at Florida State University, in our milestone 30th year strive to support our beneficiaries, UF Health Shands Children’s Hospital and the FSU College of Medicine’s Pediatric Outreach Program, to the best of our ability. We continue to hold our cause for this organization through everything that we accomplish, while inspiring others to do the same. While honoring the legacy that we have built over the past 30 years, we continue to leave our own legacy of uplifting support for our beneficiaries and passion for what we stand for, for many years to come. We will leave a positive light on our campus, fostering a supportive atmosphere for everyone inside and outside of this organization, offering the opportunity to embrace the essence and heart of our cause. We, at DM at FSU, continue to advocate for our families through every struggle and hardship, while being inspired and motivated by their bravery and resilience.”
As Dance Marathon at FSU continues to expand its 30-year legacy, so does its commitment to providing hope, healing, and a brighter future for the children who need it most. Every dollar raised, every hour danced, and every story shared brings UF Health Shands Children’s Hospital one step closer to a world where every child receives the care they need.
