Two campuses, one cause
From Oct. 14-18, the University of Florida and Florida State University chapters of the international medical fraternity, Phi Delta Epsilon, participated in “Stand for the Kids Week,” a week of friendly competition to raise funds for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals at UF Health Shands Children’s Hospital.
“Stand for the Kids” began in 2013 as Phi Delta Epsilon’s international day of philanthropy, where chapters and members around the world would stand – if able – to raise awareness and funds for their local children’s hospitals. The event has since evolved into a week of festivities at UF and FSU.
Both chapters set individual fundraising goals of $1,000. Their dedication and commitment to children’s health was on full display as they far exceeded expectations, raising a collective $9,671, with FSU contributing a record-breaking $7,789, the most the chapter has ever raised for Stand for the Kids.
To energize the campuses and communities, each chapter hosted themed days throughout the week. On Oct. 6, Stand for the Kids Day, FSU organized a carnival with music, bounce houses, and games, while students and community members at UF had a chance to “pie” fraternity members in the face.
Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals at UF Health Shands Children’s Hospital is grateful for the hard work and commitment shown by both Phi Delta Epsilon chapters in supporting CMN and a healthier future for children.
